Airport Director says 2025 marked by safe, efficient operations despite weather challenges, Year 2026 expected to be transformative for capacity, connectivity Jammu, Dec 22 (KNO): The Jammu Airport has recorded steady growth in air traffic during 2025, handling over 13.5 lakh passengers and nearly 10,972 flight movements till mid-December. As per the data accessed exclusively by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the airport recorded 5,486 arrivals and 5,486 departures between January 1 and December 15, 2025. During the same period, total passenger arrivals stood at 6,83,632, while departures were recorded at 6,70,764, reflecting a steady flow of domestic travellers throughout the year. Cargo and mail operations also continued smoothly. Between January and November 2025, Jammu Airport handled 810.32 tonnes of incoming and 247.86 tonnes of outgoing cargo and mail, underscoring its growing logistical importance. The Airport Director Jammu, Davender Yadav, told KNO that Jammu Airport witnessed steady passenger movement and consistent flight operations during 2025, reflecting the growing demand for air travel in the region. “Despite operational challenges, including weather-related disruptions, coordinated efforts by all stakeholders ensured safe, efficient and passenger-friendly operations. With the new terminal building progressing steadily, 2026 is expected to be a transformative year, significantly improving capacity, infrastructure and the overall passenger experience,” he said. Officials also said that despite occasional weather-related disruptions, flight operations remained largely smooth throughout the year. The airport currently operates flights to Srinagar, Leh, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Indore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, with efforts underway to add more routes in 2026. One of the year’s key milestones, officials said, has been the construction of the new terminal building at Belicharana, which is about 45 percent complete. They said the terminal is expected to be a major infrastructural boost once completed next year. They added that the upcoming terminal will be capable of handling 4.5 million passengers annually, with a peak-hour capacity of 2,000 passengers. Spread over 56,693 square metres, the facility will feature 13 aircraft parking stands, along with parking for 250 four-wheelers and 200 two-wheelers—(KNO)
